Here is my quick and easy FREE printable kids travel journal. It is made from only one sheet of paper with no glue!
I wanted to create a free printable kids travel journal for you that was super easy. Something small and simple that kids could keep as a travel souvenir.
To keep things incredibly mom-friendly, each travel journal is made from just one sheet of paper, with no glue. Because who’s got time for a huge messy craft project when you’re trying to pack for vacation? Not me!
You are going to love how simple this kids travel journal is to put together. And did I mention that it is adorable and mini? Just the right size to toss in a daypack (or even a pocket!) and take along on a hike or to a museum.
What to know about the FREE Printable kids travel journal
You’ll find two versions of my FREE printable kids mini travel journal in my resource library. An international travel journal with a world map and a US travel journal with a US map. Let me know what other countries or states you’d like me to make journals for!
I’ve also shown how you can add just a couple of staples and some washi tape to make your child’s journal even more colorful and a tad sturdier.
If your child would like to use PHOTOS in their mini travel journal instead of drawings, I recommend the Kodak Printomatic Instant Camera. This instant camera prints out 2”x3” photos on adhesive backed color photo paper that is durable and long-lasting. The photos are the perfect size to fit in the kids mini travel journal and you won’t need to mess with glue. It doesn’t get any easier than that!
Materials To Make The Kids Travel Journal:
- FREE printable (available for free in my resource library – get the password at the bottom of this post)
- Washi tape (I buy variety packs of 15mm washi tape like these.)
- Colored Pencils (This is the only brand I buy – they are the best!)
- Photos (the 2” x 3” peel and stick photos from the Kodak Printomatic Instant Camera work best.)
First, download the printable file from my free resource library and print it out. In your print options choose Actual Size and Landscape orientation. If you do not, your folds may not line up with the printed pages.
Now watch the video below for folding instructions. If you aren’t able to watch it right now you can either Pin this page for later or follow the step by step photo instructions below the video.
Flip your printable over to be printed side down and then fold in half lengthwise.
Open the paper back up. Now fold in half so the short ends meet.
Unfold the paper again. Flip it over so the printed side faces up. Fold both short ends in to meet at the center crease.
Unfold the paper once again and pinch up the center.
Cut along the crease. Be sure to only cut the two center sections, leaving the two outer sections intact.
Holding onto the center sections that you just cut apart, flip them out and fold the book flat. If you have trouble visualizing this part, be sure to watch the video above.
If you’d like to make the kids travel journal a little sturdier, add two staples along the spine. I folded washi tape over each page edge as well. Just trim the edges of the tape flush with the paper. I gently rounded the corners with my scissors (no special tool needed!).
Now it’s time to fill out the journal! Feel free to use as many or as few materials as you’d like. While you’re on vacation, encourage your kids to follow the writing prompts and jot something down. If your kids are not yet writers, just have them answer aloud so you can copy their thoughts down for them!
To use photos in your travel journal, an instant camera like the Kodak Printomatic works best. The photos are 2”x3” and instantly print out on adhesive backed paper. It’s like a little photo sticker!
