This is my full Homewood Suites By Hilton review. I’m sharing exactly what makes these the best hotels with family suites, and why they are are a fantastic value!
Traveling with kids comes with a lot of challenges. Standard hotel rooms never feel large enough for a family, and going without a kitchen for a week or more doesn’t make life any easier.
Recently we stayed in two residential all-suite hotels to see how they compare to standard hotels. We wanted to know if having a kitchen would really make a big difference, and if the extra space would be noticeable for our family.
In this post, I’m sharing all the details of our most recent Homewood Suites By Hilton stay, including the amenities we loved, and the things we would like to see changed (spoiler alert: not many!).
I’ll also list some of the most popular Homewood Suites extended stay hotels, and why everyone loves them so much. With over 450 Homewood Suites locations across the United States, Canada, and Mexico, there’s a good chance you’ll find one near your next vacation destination!
Using The Hilton Honors App
As soon as I made my reservation with Homewood Suites I got my confirmation email which included a link to download the Hilton Honors App. I love that most large hotel brands have hopped on board with mobile check-in!
The Hilton Honors App is available for both iOS and Android. Once I signed into the app with my Hilton Honors member number I was able to see all the details of our upcoming stay.
One day before our stay I got a notification from the app on my phone, inviting me to use Hilton’s Mobile Check-In. I was even able to choose our exact room on a floor by floor map. I love that I could view the complete map of the property and decide where we wanted to be!
Since we planned to take advantage of the free breakfast and our son loves any opportunity to swim, we picked a first-floor room halfway between the pool and the dining area.
Most importantly, the Hilton Honors App lets you skip the front desk line entirely. With the app’s Digital Key feature, you can unlock your room using your smartphone. Simply use Mobile Check-In and request a Digital Key in the Hilton Honors App. If you are arriving at a peak time this will easily save you 30+ minutes of waiting (likely with kids who are tired or hungry or both!).
Note: current technology only allows for one digital key per room. If you need another key simply swing by the front desk when it is not busy and ask for a key card.
Homewood Suites Rooms
Room choices vary slightly from location to location, but Homewood Suites hotels have five common room configurations:
- 1 King Bed Studio Suite (an open concept with one king bed and one pull-out sofa)
- 2 Queen Bed Studio Suite (an open concept with two queen beds and one pull-out sofa)
- 1 King Bed One Bedroom Suite (one king bed in a separate bedroom with a door, and one pull-out sofa in the living area)
- 2 Queen Bed One Bedroom Suite (two queen beds in a separate bedroom with a door, and one pull-out sofa in the living area)
- Two Bedroom Suites (availability and bed configurations in two bedroom suites have the most variability compared to the other suite types – example combinations include 1 King/2 Doubles/1 Pull-out Sofa, and 1 King/1 Queen/1 Pull-out Sofa)
Some locations have even more options, like a large Boardroom Suite, or a Family Suite with bunk beds.
We stayed in a 1 King Bed Studio Suite and had plenty of room for our family of three. The room had an open floor plan, with a kitchen, dining area, king bed, pull-out sofa, and a split bath. Our son slept on the comfortable pull-out sofa (although it would easily be large enough to accommodate a couple of teenage siblings or even two adults).
On this trip, we knew that our son would be exhausted at the end of the day (and fall asleep easily!). But if your children will fall asleep faster without distractions, go with a One Bedroom Suite so you can close the door.
Homewood Suites Kitchen Amenities
Hotel kitchens at Homewood Suites have everything you need to cook a quick meal, starting with a full-size fridge. And we were impressed to see a grocery shopping list right on the fridge door. Just drop off your completed list at the front desk, and the hotel staff will pick up whatever you need and return it to your suite that day.
Homewood Suites kitchens are also equipped with a two burner stovetop, microwave, and an apartment size dishwasher.
Our kitchen came stocked with: one chef’s knife, one paring knife, two potholders, eating utensils for four, one serving spoon, measuring cups and spoons, one spatula, one slotted spoon, bottle opener, can opener, one small glass cutting board, one medium saucepan, one small saucepan, one large saute pan, four assorted food storage containers, four large drinking glasses, four small drinking glasses, four coffee mugs, four small plates, four large plates, four bowls, ice bucket, two disposable coffee cups, one dish towel, one dishcloth, small bottle of dish detergent, one dishwasher detergent pod, two-slot toaster, small coffee pot, and assorted coffees, teas, and sweeteners. Disposable products are refilled as needed by housekeeping.
If you’re anything like me, you might be giving some side-eye to that super small in-room coffee pot right now. However, we quickly discovered it was fast and easy to grab coffee at the daily free breakfast buffet. We didn’t need our in-room coffee pot even once! Plus you’ll find creamers and sweeteners at the buffet, so you can avoid having to buy those.
One of our favorite features of the kitchen is the dining table. You won’t have to balance a plate on your lap to eat or sit on the bed to answer a few work emails from your laptop.
Homewood Suites Bathrooms
Rooms at Homewood Suites have split baths. The sink area is separated from the toilet and shower area by a door to make it easier for more than one person to get ready for the day. Our family really loves the flexibility of split baths. In the future, I would love to see Homewood Suites install an additional door between the sink area and the bedroom for us moms who like to get ready for the day without waking anyone.
We loved the shower in our suite. It had one large fixed shower head with fantastic water pressure and a second, height-adjustable shower head (great for young kids!). And I know my fellow moms will appreciate the shower’s low corner shaving shelf as much as I did.
Homewood Suites Breakfast
Every morning Homewood Suites offers a free full breakfast buffet. If you’re traveling with a family, this is a huge savings! Eggs and toast were always available during our stay and the sides rotated between bacon, sausage, and biscuits with gravy. Cold breakfast options included cereal, yogurt, and yogurt toppings. The breakfast buffet also had a waffle station that was super popular with kids.
The coffee bar was stocked with regular, robust, and decaf coffee, as well as half and half, skim milk, and all the usual sweeteners. Even as self-proclaimed coffee snobs we thought the coffee at Homewood Suites was fantastic!
Other Homewood Suites Amenities We Love
Since business travelers often use Homewood Suites for extended stays, you’ll find coin-operated washers and dryers on every floor. This is a huge perk for us! We like to pack light whenever possible, and let’s face it – kids are experts at dirtying clothes.
At other hotels, we have to hand wash a few items in the sink or pay for expensive laundry service (which also means adhering to their timeline). So self-serve laundry is super helpful! Try throwing a load in while your family is at the pool, or during your kids’ bedtime routine to maximize time.
Complimentary Evening Social
Homewood Suites hosts the Complimentary Evening Social every Monday through Thursday from 5-7pm. This is essentially a free light dinner buffet, with a rotating schedule of dishes like sliders, salads, flatbread pizza, and barbeque.
Most hotels just offer a free happy hour with drinks and a few sparse snacks, so the Complimentary Evening Social is a great value (and much more kid-friendly).
Where to find the most popular Homewood Suites By Hilton Hotels
Homewood Suites By Hilton Lake Buena Vista is only one mile from Walt Disney World. It has a free theme park shuttle, and even offers huge two bedroom suites at a very reasonable rate.
Homewood Suites By Hilton Anaheim Resort – Convention Center is a half-mile from Disneyland, and directly across the street from the Anaheim Convention Center. Kiddos will love the family suites that include bunks!
Homewood Suites By Hilton Chicago – Downtown was completely renovated in 2016 and is one of the most cost-effective ways to stay in a Downtown Chicago suite (especially when you consider the free breakfast!). This is a fantastic value!
Homewood Suites By Hilton Seattle Downtown is just a 12-minute walk to the Space Needle and a 3-minute drive to the Cruise Terminal at Pier 91. If you are cruising to Alaska from Seattle, this would be the perfect place to stay the night before embarkation day.
Have you stayed at Homewood Suites or any other all-suite hotel recently? As always, email me at firstname.lastname@example.org with questions, comments, or just to tell me about your most recent vacation – I would love to hear about it!
